THE DBG DAY OF GIVING BACK

BY JAY NEAL

On Saturday, Aug. 25, we held our 3rd Annual DBG Day of Giving Back. We set aside one day every year to do something meaningful in our community that doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with soccer (although a soccer game seems to always break out). It's a chance for our Beer Family to make a change in the world around us.

This year, we went to Francisco “Pancho” Medrano Middle School in Northwest Dallas to assist one of our great partners, Fifty Eight Foundation, improve the school’s sports complexes. Fifty Eight Foundation, who runs soccer camps for Medrano students during the school year, had been out at the school all week doing improvement projects and helping to feed, as well as play soccer with, kids who showed up in the mornings. The final day, our DBG Day of Giving Back, was to be the icing on the cake.

Twenty DBG members showed up early Saturday morning and helped paint the 600-ft wall behind the school’s baseball diamonds that had been tagged with graffiti. While the first coat of paint was drying, there was time to play soccer, dodgeball, and even human foosball with a dozen or so students who showed up to help with the project. After hot dogs for lunch, the second coat of paint was put on in no time at all. After a round of refreshing paletas, DBG had helped to improve a field lacking in a little TLC and hopefully make things a little better for the students of Medrano Middle School.

We want to give thanks to Andy Robinson, Matt Brown, and all the great people that work with Fifty Eight Foundation. Go visit them at fifty-eightfoundation.org to see the awesome work they do. We also want to give an extra special thank you to all of those who gave up their Saturday morning to come to Medrano and help out. We couldn’t do it without our members. If you want to get involved with any of our events throughout the year please don’t hesitate to reach out.

THANK YOU! You are all amazing.
